Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is DocVerse?

A: DocVerse is a plug-in for Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel that turns those applications into full-fledged, Web-enabled, collaboration tools.

Q: How does it work?

A: DocVerse plugs into Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, enabling truly painless, real-time sharing and simultaneous group-editing of documents.

  • After downloading the DocVerse plug-in, groups of users can edit the same document at the same time – whether online or offline. DocVerse tracks, manages and syncs all changes to merge them correctly into one updated version of the document – even if users save the same document at the same exact time. That means no more e-mailing attachments around or repeatedly cutting-and-pasting changes manually.
  • With DocVerse, saving = sharing. That means that saving any document in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or Excel automatically creates a Web-based version of it in the cloud. So, the most recent version of any document is always available on your desktop, as well as on the Web with a unique, shareable URL that never changes and can be accessed by anyone you invite to see it – whether they have downloaded the DocVerse plug-in or not. Users can comment on the most recent version of the document online via the Web viewer using any browser, or via the DocVerse plug-in in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Q: Is it safe to download?

A: Yes. This version of DocVerse is the same one used by large, Fortune 500 enterprises, deployed in partnership with Jive Software (www.jivesoftware.com).

Q: Can’t I just use Google Docs for that?

A: Google Docs works well if you want to upload a version of a document onto the Web, or if you don’t have Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or Excel. However, if you’re one of the 600 million users who rely on Microsoft Office and want real-time, automated, Web-based sharing, or group-editing of Word, PowerPoint or Execl documents, Google Docs doesn’t do that.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Every edition of DocVerse is available as a free trial. Individuals will always be able to use DocVerse for free for light use.

Individual Plus accounts begin at $6 / mo with packages for up to 10 users and more starting at $49 /mo.

Q: Will it work with all my files?

A: Yes. DocVerse works for any Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files for users of Microsoft Office 2007 and 2003.

Q: Do my colleagues have to use DocVerse too for this to work?

A: No. You can share documents with anyone who has access to the Web. Users can make comments and download all current or previous versions of any document directly from any Web browser. For group-editing of a document, your colleagues will need to have the DocVerse plug-in for Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Excel.

Q: Does my IT department need to install this?

A: No. DocVerse plugs directly into Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and can be quickly and easily installed directly onto your computer without any IT support.

Q: Are my files secure?

A: Yes, files are completely safe and secure in DocVerse. All data and documents are protected using state-of-the-art encryption protocols. All communication between the Office plug-in and our servers is encrypted. Our servers are located in fully secure facilities with redundant backups so all data can be recovered at any point in time.

Q: Does it work for Macs?

A: DocVerse is currently available for Microsoft Office 2007 and 2003 for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. The earliest we will offer support for Mac is some time in 2010.

Q: Does it work for mobile?

A: DocVerse works with any browser that runs Adobe Flash Player 8 or above, which is installed on over 99% of all desktop browsers worldwide. However, very few mobile browsers support Flash today. This is changing rapidly.

Q: Who built this?

A: DocVerse was founded by two Microsoft veterans, Shan Sinha and Alex DeNeui, who recognized that the collaboration needs of Word, PowerPoint, or Excel’s 600 million users worldwide were still completely unmet by existing products.

Q: Can I get support if something goes wrong?

A: Absolutely. DocVerse offers support for all users, and can be contacted at help@docverse.com or visit our forum
